Swinton Park
|
Swinton Park is a 30-bedroom luxury castle hotel and is the
ancestral home of the Cunliffe-Lister family. Sir Abstrupus
Danby founded the first residence on the site in 1695. In the
1760's, the parklands and a chain of five ornamental lakes were
created and in the 1800's the house was turned into a
'castle'.
In 1882, Samuel Lister bought the park, and it is
currently owned by his great-great grandson. The Parkland
supports a herd of approximately 100 Fallow deer including a number
of stags. Due to their pale colouring some of the deer are
often mistaken for albinos. The parkland, which is separated
from the house by a lake designed to look like a river also
contains, follies, standing stones and druids seats.
A walking track around the lakes leads to Quarry Gill which
offers dramatic views down the ravine.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the grounds.
