Masham

The market town of Masham borders the River Ure on the edge of the AONB.

Famous for its breweries, it has long association with farming with a cattle market, two feed mills and other businesses connected to agriculture.

It has a superb market square surrounded by listed buildings from the 18th century. Once the venue for huge annual sheep sale, with 80,000 sheep changing hands at its peak in the 19th century, the tradition has been resurrected and the Masham Sheep Fair now takes place every September.

The town has many great places to eat, plenty of accommodation many interesting shops selling local produce.

The Black Sheep Brewery and Theakstons Brewery both offer tours around their facilities, each offering a different experience.
