Yorkshire Country Wines

Situated in the village of Glasshouses, this 19th century Mill was originally owned by the Metcalfe family. They have left an impressive legacy of grand houses, cottages near the mill for their workers, a school for the children and even a brewery in nearby Pateley - though long since closed!

The Mill used two water wheels to spin the flax and after 1862, a steam engine was added to supplement the waterpower. The mill continued spinning yarn until the late seventies/early eighties.

In 1989 Yorkshire Country Wines established itself in the cellars of the old mill. They produce a range of traditional fruit wines, such as Elderberry, Elderflower, Blackberry, Gooseberry, Damson, Cherry, Rhubarb and Wassail Cup. The tasting room is home to an impressive water turbine and the former Steam Room has been converted into a tearoom.
