Greenhow

The village of Greenhow is characterised by its industrial past. Remains of the extensive leadmining industry can be seen in the village and in the surrounding landscape which also contains many features associated with the quarrying and lime burning industry.

Visit the Toft Gate lime kiln on the edge of the village where there are information boards and a short trail. For an insight into modern quarrying climb up to the Coldstones Quarry viewing platform where you get a fantastic view of the quarry and surrounding area.

To find out more about the areas rich heritage follow the Bewerley Industrial Heritage Trail (PDF 230KB) from the car park. For a shorter trail and more local information, look out for the board next to the Lychgate into the village burial ground.
