Lower Nidderdale

Situated on valley floor, Pateley Bridge is the principal town of Nidderdale. Shaped by its industrial past and overlooked by Scotgate Ash Quarry (that once supplied the stone used to form the steps leading to the National Gallery in London) Pateley is now a much more peaceful place where local heritage trails and a fascinating museum will help you discover how the landscape has evolved over the centuries.

The River Nidd flows through the town and onwards into the lower dale where the valley sides support large tracts of ancient semi natural broad-leaved woodland. There are many tranquil spots along its course where you can enjoy a walk, picnic or simply enjoy the peace and quiet.
