Coldstones Cut

High above Pateley Bridge at a height of 1375 feet above sea level an iconic piece of public art has been built into the hilltop at Coldstones Quarry, Greenhow.

Created by the renowned artist Andrew Sabin as a sculptural response to the Quarry, the Coldstones Cut is a dramatic sculpture on an enormous scale, cutting through the land and unusually combining a contemporary streetscape with the brute impressiveness of ancient stone block constructions.

Visitors can walk through the sculpture exploring the streetscape, discovering the winding paths within and experience the extraordinary vistas that the various platforms expose, from the stunning scenery of the Nidderdale AONB to major landmarks of North Yorkshire. A special viewing platform also allows the opportunity to see the day-to-day workings of the impressive limestone quarry and experience a sense of 'Living History' through man's impact on the landscape.

A network of footpaths merge at The Coldstones Cut, while the Way of the Roses cycleway passes the entrance. Limited car parking is available at Toft Gate car park where a short walk leads you to the Cut. Access for those with restricted mobility can be arranged via the quarry.
